- Developing a AI strategy mission statement – CAIO is responsible for end-to-end strategy, design, and implementation of the company’s AI road map.
- Creating the bridge between AI and ML solutions and business operations - the CAIO focus is the relationship between the AI/ML and productivity.

Authority of the Chief AI Officer
- The CAIO has the authority to recommend the purchase of equipment necessary for the AI strategy (within the guidelines established by the enterprise).
- The CAIO has the authority to engage external consultants as necessary to assist in all AI strategy activities (within the guidelines established by the enterprise and IT).
- Hiring - The CAIO will hire/terminate direct reports, as well as approve staff reporting to the direct reports. Included in this responsibility is the discipline, promotion, salary adjustment, etc., of staff including providing guidelines for all technology functions within the enterprise including the SBUs that may not directly report to this position.
- Budgetary - The CAIO is responsible for oversight and review of staffing, projects, and performance of all AI strategy functions of the organization.
- Contract Review - All contracts for AI strategy are subject to review by the CAIO.
