Tech Salaries: Compensation On The Rise for CIOs, IT Workers - Generally, overall compensation is nudging up ever so slightly, according to the first-half 2011 IT salary survey from Janco Associates. And while the employment picture is far from cheery, there's some comfort in the finding that more tech jobs are being added than are being cut. Janco also surveys companies for the status of bonuses and perks, and the research again presents a mixed picture.

On the positive side, 56 percent of employers are offering flex hours/schedules. This percentage has held steady since 2010, and remains well over the 49 percent of employers who allowed this two years ago. The standards for performance bonuses are changing, however, to shift focus from individual excellence (personal bonuses are down) to accomplishments that benefit the entire organization (enterprise performance bonuses are up). More than 1,100 professionals took part in the survey. The vast majority of respondents are senior IT managers or HR managers. Additional research was compiled from U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting. Here are nine highlights:
- $78,078 is the total mean compensation for all IT professionals in first-half 2011, up .39% from the same period last year.
- $81,722 is the mean compensation for all IT employees in large enterprises in first-half 2011, up just over .2% from the same period in 2010.
- $74,435 is the mean compensation for all IT employees in mid-sized enterprises in first-half 2011, up .57% from the same period last year.
- $175,363 is the mean compensation for CIOs in large enterprises in first-half 2011, up just over 2% from the first six months of 2010.
- $162,250 is the mean compensation for CIOs in mid-level enterprises in first-half 2011, down just under .6% from the same period a year ago.
- 55,500 is the number of IT jobs that have been added in the U.S. since January 2011.
- 47% of respondents say their companies are offering IT and other employees 401K benefits in first-half 2011, down from 49% in the same period last year.
- 48% of respondents say their companies are offering personal performance bonuses in first-half 2011, down from 53% in the same period last year.
- 36% of respondents say their companies are are offering enterprise performance bonuses in first-half 2011, up from 31% in the same period last year.
