No recession signs for IT Pros according to Janco

Janco forecasts over 100K new IT jobs will be created in 2019

Park City – UTe-janco.com – Hiring for IT Pros goes unabated as Janco forecasts 102,400 will be added in 2019. CIOs and CEO’s are budgeting for increased IT head counts and approving the use of outside contractors, and consultants for 2020. There continues to be more open positions than qualified professionals available to fill them. However, the candidate pool is large enough for recruiters to find qualified candidates. Janco has seen a slight increase in attrition rates due to more active recruiting and the compression of pay grades for some key positions.

The CEO of Janco Associates, Inc., Mr. M. Victor Janulaitis said, “Overall hiring for IT Professionals remains robust. The rate of increase in the number of new IT positions is up slightly with between 7,700 to 12,700 new IT jobs created in each of the last 3 months. There have been 68,800 new IT Jobs created year to date. That is 19,700 more new jobs than were added when compared to the same eight-month period of 2018.” He added, “A number of CIOs we interviewed, as part of the release of our Mid-Year 2019 IT Salary Survey, did voice a note of caution. They were not quite sure what the impact of the looming trade war China would be and the lack of approval for the new US/Canada/Mexico trade deal (USMCA).”

Janulaitis added, “If, and that is a big if, there is a recession, we would expect to see a decline in IT hiring.  However, in our opinion, we believe that IT hiring will be a trailing indicator.” He added, “This is based on two factors.  First, the move of IT jobs back to America, has shown CIOs and CEOs that by outsourcing IT was like moving manufacturing offshore. It made companies less responsive.  Companies will continue to hire IT pros to gain more control of their company operational infrastructure. They will slow hiring in operations where automation and the move to data and ordering closer to the customer will reduce headcount. Second, the move towards DevOps, Blockchain, and DLP is showing very favorable ROI. Until those technologies mature and become the new legacy approaches CIO and Digital Brand pros will have the upper hand.  That will be the case until the first wave of recession-based staff reductions occurs and overall cost reduction becomes the focus of management.”

Janulaitis said, “Most of the new positions created focused on getting data closer to those who need it. The applications being developed are mobile. In addition, the new apps are being designed with user interfaces that comply with the latest security and privacy mandates is a priority. New skill sets are being recruited. Legacy processing continues taking a back seat.”
